RAPID ESCAPE AND COMBATIVE TECHNIQUES

Cane Do for Seniors

What is Cane Do you ask? It means “the way of the cane”. Our Cane Do program is perfect for seniors, as it allows them to take advantage of their canes, familiar objects they always have with them, in order to increase their physical health and their ability to defend themselves against an attack. With our Cane Do program, seniors will exercise their bodies in new ways, while at the same time learning how to use their canes as defensive weapons. We will teach them how to block and strike, using the crook, shaft and tip of their canes. They will find that just acquiring and practicing the moves learned in this program will be an excellent work-out, and if they ever find themselves in a dangerous situation in which these skills become necessary, they will know how to respond effectively.

There are not many self defense programs tailor-made for those who use a cane in their everyday lives. Your facility, by deciding to offer Cane Do to your residents/members, is providing them with the distinctive opportunity to participate in a unique program which teaches them how to turn their canes, which an assailant might view as a symbol of weakness, into objects of strength.

Cane Do Results

By the conclusion of their participation in the Cane Do program, the seniors at your facility will have achieved better health and wellness through cane exercises, increased their level of confidence and greatly added to their knowledge of self defense. Cane Do will teach seniors to see their canes and their own abilities in an entirely new way!

Cane Do: The Way of the Cane

The Cane Do program consists of three interrelated phases:

  • Stretching — By using the cane to stretch their muscles, seniors will increase flexibility, range of motion and blood flow, as well as reduce muscle tension.
  • Strengthening and Toning — By using the cane in conjunction with exercise bands, seniors will build muscle and establish both balance and coordination.
  • Self Defense — A cane is more than just a mobility aid. By using the cane as a self defense tool, seniors arm themselves with the techniques needed to defend effectively and legally against an assailant.
  • Intended Participants: Seniors
  • Program Length: 12 weeks
  • Program Schedule: Once per week
  • Monthly Tuition: $40.00—No registration fee!
